When the service is complete, all shredded components are stored at our secure warehouse and processed using e-Stewards’ international standards. We are also pioneers in the recycling of electronic waste including Cathode Ray Tubes. CRTs are a major target for us because the global transition to flatscreen monitors did not place any active collection system in Nigeria, where residences can hand over their CRTs for disposal. This leaves Nigerian society defenceless against lead and cadmium poisoning.
When the CRT dismantling process starts, the plastic casing of the monitor is removed. Once the plastics, glass tube, motherboards and other parts have been separated, they are passed through a detoxifier. Materials are mechanically crushed into compact sizes and sold to processors who further refine them for production of new materials. E-Terra’s CRT recycling process reduces the impact of mining for new products and keeps toxins out of our societies.
